How much does a wedding photographer cost in Ireland?

The average couple in Ireland spends €2,276 on their wedding photographer, according to the weddingsonline Irish Wedding Survey 2025. That is roughly 6% of the total budget, and it is one of the few lines you cannot redo if it goes wrong.

What sets the price

Photography is priced on time, experience and what you take home, not on a fixed rate.

• Hours of coverage. Bridal prep to first dances is a full day, usually ten to twelve hours. Ceremony-and-a-couple-of-hours packages cost less because they are less work.
• Experience and demand. A photographer two years in, building a portfolio, prices below one who is booked out eighteen months ahead. Neither is automatically the right choice.
• A second shooter. A second photographer catches the groom's prep and guest reactions the lead cannot. It adds a few hundred euro.
• The album. A hand-made album is a real cost. Many couples take the edited files first and order the album later, or not at all.

What you actually get

For a typical mid-range package expect full-day coverage, a set of professionally edited high-resolution images delivered online, and usually print rights. Read the contract for three things: how many images you receive, how long delivery takes (six to ten weeks is normal, longer in peak season), and whether prints and albums are extra.

Booking well

Book early. Good photographers for summer Saturdays go twelve to eighteen months out. If your date is peak, this is one of the first bookings to make after the venue.

Meet them, or at least call. You will spend more of the day with your photographer than anyone else. A portfolio you love matters, but so does someone you are relaxed around, because it shows in the pictures.

Look at full weddings, not highlights. Anyone can show ten perfect frames. Ask to see a complete gallery from one wedding, ideally in a venue like yours and in the same season, so you see how they handle the light you will actually have.

Where to save without regretting it

• Book eight hours rather than twelve if your evening is mostly dance floor. The last hours are the most repetitive.
• Take the files now and decide on the album later, once you have lived with the photos.
• A talented newer photographer with a portfolio you love is a genuine saving, not a compromise, if the work is there.
