How much does a wedding cost in Ireland?
What an Irish wedding actually costs, using the published 2025 survey figures: average spend, what each supplier charges, and the four decisions that move the total.

The average wedding in Ireland costs €36,641, excluding the honeymoon, for an average of 141 guests. That is from the weddingsonline Irish Wedding Survey 2025, which asked 1,014 couples in December 2025, and it is 6.5% up on the year before.
Treat that number as a landmark, not a target. Couples marry beautifully here for well under €20,000, and others clear €50,000 without feeling extravagant. What separates them is rarely taste. It is four decisions made early.
Where the money actually goes
Venue and catering is not one line among many. At an average of €15,087, excluding accommodation, it is about 41% of the whole budget on its own. It is also priced per head, which means it multiplies every decision you make about the guest list.

How much does a wedding cost per person in Ireland?
About €260 a head all in: the survey average of €36,641 divided by 141 guests. The catering alone averages €107 a head, which is the figure venues quote, but every guest also carries a share of the drinks, evening food, stationery, styling and favours.
The single most useful number in planning is your cost per head. Divide your total budget by your guest count. If your own figure is a long way below €260, something in your plan is going to have to give.

Small weddings usually cost more per head than this, because the photographer, dress, band and rings cost the same whatever the guest count. Large weddings come in a little under it. For a real figure, put your own numbers into the wedding budget calculator.
The legal cost of getting married
The legal part is the cheap part. You give the HSE Civil Registration Service three months' notice and pay a €200 fee. Church and solemniser fees vary, so ask yours directly. The full process is in our guide to how to legally get married in Ireland.
The four decisions that set your total
1. Guest count. At roughly €260 a head all in, every ten guests is about €2,600. Cutting twenty names is worth more than every saving tip on the internet combined, and it is the only lever that shrinks almost every line at once.
2. The day of the week. Venues here discount hard outside Saturday. Expect roughly 10% off for a Friday and 15% for a Sunday, more midweek in winter. These are typical negotiating ranges rather than survey figures, so ask each venue directly.
3. The month. June to September is peak. November to March, New Year aside, is materially cheaper on the venue line and your shortlist suddenly has availability.
4. Bar policy. Whether you put money behind the bar, and how much, is the least predictable line in the budget. Decide it early, cap it, and tell the venue the cap.
What couples consistently over-spend on
- Favours. €13 a head is €1,833 at 141 guests, and they are left on the table at most weddings. This is the easiest four-figure saving on the list.
- Extra floral installations in rooms guests occupy for forty minutes.
- Twelve-hour photography when the last two hours are dance floor shots.
- Champagne at the reception. Prosecco at 141 guests saves a lot and nobody comments.
What couples consistently under-spend on
- Guest transport. A coach home keeps the room full until it leaves.
- Drinks reception entertainment. It is the longest, flattest part of the day.
- Contingency. Hold 5% back. Something will need it.

The €36,641 excludes it. 88% of couples honeymoon abroad and the survey average was €5,393, so the real number a couple needs to find is closer to €42,000. Start with the number, not the venue
Set the budget, set the guest count, and only then go viewing. Venues are very good at showing you a Saturday in July before you have decided whether you can afford one.
